Booking Profits on Opportunistic Buys

Earlier this month, I added DBS Group Holdings (SGX: D05) to my portfolio and also subscribed for a double allocation in the preferential offer (PO) for Frasers Centrepoint Trust (SGX: J69U), or FCT.

These were more opportunistic plays rather than long-term holdings.

Yesterday, I decided to realise some quick gains from these positions. Both DBS and FCT had experienced a sharp price increase of about 10% in just a few weeks, which presented a good opportunity to take profit.

While I wouldn’t have minded holding onto them for their dividends, this quick profit is quite welcome as it will be enough to cover the accommodation costs for our upcoming family trip to Taipei in June.

Beyond that immediate benefit, selling now also bolsters my cash buffer.

This increased liquidity provides me with greater resilience to navigate potential market headwinds beyond 2027, allowing me to maintain my normal life without needing to liquidate other holdings.

Even after realising these gains, my conviction in their long-term potential remains, as both DBS and FCT continue to be among my top 10 holdings.

Of course, if the markets were to continue its rebound, that would also be positive news, as my broader portfolio would benefit even more.

Wishing you a good weekend ahead.

Enjoy the general election debate and rally!
