KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Malaysia appointed Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour as its new central bank governor for a five-year term, effective July 1.
Bank Negara Malaysia said late Friday that Abdul Rasheed, currently a deputy governor, would replace Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus as governor next month after the latter completes her five-year term on June 30.
Abdul Rasheed joined Bank Negara in 1988 and has held the position of deputy governor since 2016. He is a member of the monetary policy committee and the financial stability committee, the central bank said.
“I look forward to continue and build on the work of Governor Shamsiah. Under her leadership, the Bank has been steadfast in discharging its mandate to promote monetary and financial stability, even through many challenging periods which include the pandemic crisis,” Abdul Rasheed said.
